Episode 13 - Vote for Lee!

Mazal Tov to Lee Bienstock! He's one of two finalists (with Sean Yazbeck) who can become the next Apprentice.

Tonight's episode was Gold Rush all the way. Lee demonstrated his business and marketing savvy and Sean provided his metrosexual skills. Their skills complemented each other well and took both candidates to the finals.

Lee put himself in the shoes of the judges. He pointed out that it didn't matter what the executives wanted. Since the hotel employees were judging the task, Sean and Lee needed to learn what the employees wanted in their uniforms. Lee listened to the Embassy Suites team members and learned that they only wanted tweaks to the current design; not a complete redesign. Most importantly, the clothing had to be functional.

Synergy, on the other hand, felt that they knew what the employees should want. Allie Jablon had trouble listening to the employees. Roxanne took a low profile, hoping that only Allie would take the fall if they'd lose. Instead of asking the workers for suggestions, Allie recommended culottes to the housekeepers. She received blank stares but moved forward with her design idea. Allie emphasized style over function. That wasn't what the employees had in mind.

Sean's reaction to the Synergy designs: "It was horrendous!" The hotel employees agreed, with 69% of them choosing Gold Rush's uniforms.

One employee commented, "Gold Rush rocks!"

As a reward, Sean and Lee dined with the Trump children at Aquavit, a Scandinavian restaurant in Manhattan. Lee enjoyed a green vegetable salad. [Not that it's relevant, but the pastry chef at Solo, an upscale kosher restaurant, previously worked at Aquavit.]

We told you a week ago that two candidates would be fired this week. Allie and Roxanne were the victims of the latest double-firing.

Next week Sean and Lee will start planning and preparing for the final tasks (read about them in the previous post). On June 5 we'll see how the final events turned out and Mr. Trump will choose the next Apprentice.

Now it's time to vote for your choice on Yahoo's The Apprentice site. Show your preference for Lee by wearing a Vote for Lee button or tee shirt. You could also get a teddy bear, beer stein, even boxer shorts or a thong.

My complete thoughts on the episode:

Well, I was pretty sure several weeks back Lee was going to be in the final two, but not for the reasons most people would have thought of. In this episode, however, it was pretty obvious he and Sean would make the final two from the get-go, as Sean and Lee simply put outdid the ladies on their fashion designs by a mile!!

While they may not have realized it at the time, Allie and Roxanne were both "fired" as soon as the winner was announced. That was because there were not going to be interviews this time, and here's why I think that was the case:

The period between October 7-25 had a lot of severe weather in the New York area. I'm suspecting that weather was severe enough to cause an outdoor task that was originally scheduled for that time to have to be canceled with for logistical reasons it not being able to be re-scheduled, forcing other (indoor) tasks to be moved around (with this actually being a "14-week job interview" instead of the "15 weeks" that Mr. Trump keeps saying as the final task takes up the final two episodes). That would have in turn likely forced the producers to go to alternate final tasks to have been moved up as I do know according to the Orthodox Apprentice site, the final tasks took place on Tuesday, November 8. Since traditionally the final tasks have been on a weekend, what I think happened was this:

What actually became the final tasks were backups to what had been originally scheduled as the final tasks for Saturday, November 12. Once an earlier task was cancelled (if that was the case, and again, if so most likely one during the period of October 7-25) a task that had likely been originally scheduled to have been the last team task on November 6-8 would have likely had to have been be moved up to replace a cancelled task.

That in turn would likely have also forced the interviews to have been moved up. Assuming the original date of the final task was Saturday, November 12, the interviews based on the first three seasons would have been three days earlier on Wednesday, November 9, but especially since if this was the case the interviews would have been moved up by three days from a Wednesday to a Sunday, that likely meant the executives who were supposed to handle those likely were unable to, forcing the interviews to be scrapped. Another scenario is if the final task had to be moved up to Tuesday, November 8 as has been reported to be the date of the final task by Orthodox Apprentice, the interviews would have had to in that scenario be scrapped to give Sean and Lee three days to work their final tasks.

As far as my thinking Lee was going to be in the final two, it's why I think the finale is on Monday, June 5, and that was not the original date of the finale. What I think happened in that regard was this:

It was noted in some circles that the 7-Eleven Task was originally scheduled to air on April 24 and then was moved up to April 17 before being moved up again to the second episode on April 10. That suggests that NBC may have originally planned to have the finale on Friday, June 16 (with a clip show originally on most likely April 3 and then likely originally changed to May 29 before that was moved entirely to CNBC and NBC moving the show itself to Fridays in June) since in the middle of June, Friday is the only night of the week NBC could have the finale.

That is the case because from Wednesday, June 7 to Monday, June 19, I knew NBC had to to keep Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays open as possible Stanley Cup (NHL) Finals dates (NBC has Games 3-7 while OLN has Games 1-2) while at the same time, NBC really can't air the finale opposite an NBA Finals game on ABC (with the earliest possible starting date being June 8 and those on most likely a Sunday-Tuesday-Thursday schedule) as it would get killed by that, though it was possible at the time NBC was making up the schedule the plan was to go back to Thursdays starting with May 25 (with an episode on Monday, May 15 before the move) before realizing the final two episodes would have been almost certain to be opposite NBA Finals games on ABC, with it then moved to Fridays because of that. Since Dan and Lee are observant Jews, that would make a Friday finale difficult anyway because even though it's in LA, it would be very close to sunset at the time the finale would end in LA around 8:00 PM local time (11:00 PM ET), and even more so if Lee became The Apprentice because he would be expected to attend a number of photo ops following the finale. Since that would be impossible for Lee to do on a Friday night because of the Sabbath, that likely forced NBC to move the finale back to a Monday night and then to June 5 when it was realized NBC has Game 4 Stanley Cup Finals the following Monday (June 12, which some sites listed as the finale date even though anyone who has been aware of dates knew that NEVER was going to be the date of the finals). That likely means, the date plan for this season was likely this:

Premiere on Monday, February 27 (which did happen)

Clip show on Monday, April 3, which was the night of the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship Game that aired on CBS, with all subsequent tasks airing later than they actually did.

Final Monday episode on May 15 (which in this scenario would have been the Rutgers University task that actually aired May 8), with after that the next episode on Thursday, May 25 before NBC realized due to NBA Finals games on June 8 & 15 in order to keep the finale that week, they would have had to move the show to Fridays, with if so the last Monday episode (which would have been the Hair Cuttery) on May 8) and the first Friday episode (which would have been Rutgers) on May 19.

The Embassy Suites episode seen Monday night was likely originally scheduled for Thursday, June 1 and then Friday, June 2.

Part 1 of the Final Four task was likely originally scheduled for Thursday, June 8 and then Friday, June 9.

The finale was likely originally scheduled for Thursday, June 15 and then Friday, June 16 due to Game 4 of the NBA Finals being on Thursday 6/15.

Lee being in the final two is why I think the date schedule was changed around (with the finale moved up to Monday, June 5 from Friday, June 16), and it's something I originally said in late April.

Wallyhorse... seriously... enough....

You've obviously put way too much thought into your theory - and you don't want to listen to the obvious holes... And I don't feel like repeating them AGAIN...
so just give it up.

(I'm not saying everything you've said is wrong - Its that none of it means Lee was obviously in the final 2)

how sweet was it to see those two annoying biotches go at each other? I've been rooting for Lee all the way through but I really really won't mind if Sean wins, I'm just so thrilled that it isn't going to be roxanne and allie. Here's hoping Trump makes last season's offer of giving the runner up a job. (As long as we dont have another Randall)

Go LEE!!!!!!

I'm sick of the severe weather, and I'm sick of you trying to think that you know what's going on. It's all guesswork, and it doesn't even matter.

What about the possibility that Trump only intended to fire one of them until he decided in the boardroom to fire both. Then he cancelled the interviews. Ever think about that?

Oh, sorry. I forgot. You can't be wrong.

It drizzled yesterday so I cancelled all my appointments for the day. Then I had to move up my Thursday appointments to Wednesday, but some people weren't available. So I decided to just cancel the Thursday appointments. I had tickets to the Yankees game next Sunday so I told Steinbrenner he had to move the game up to Thursday since my other appointments were cancelled and I couldn't wait around. I was invited to a party with the new American Idol this Friday evening. They just realized that I'm orthodox so now they're rescheduling it for next Sunday night. I hope it's not gonna be windy because that would ruin all my plans.

And that's why I think Lee is in the finals.

Well:

Those who say what they have on the guesswork (which is what it is) probably don't know how much goes into production. A lot of this is normally planned out MONTHS in advance, and I'm sure plans for "Apprentice 5" were being done even before the "Apprentice 3" finale aired last May.

When planning for "A5" was done, the producers had no idea of how bad the weather was going to be last October, and while they likely did factor in it was going to rain at some point, October is normally nowhere near as wet as last October was (in fact, October is usually the driest month of the year weather-wise). The producers at that point also probably weren't expecting to have even ONE Orthodox Jew as a candidate, let alone TWO in Dan and Lee.

There are many things that go on behind the scenes the average person doesn't know about on ANY show, Reality or otherwise. That's why I say what I have, based on what I've made myself aware of.

Although I'm not crazy about Lee being a such a politician, shanda far di goyim, at least he doesn't talk as much as the Brit, nor is he so self-confident and negative as the brit.

Nevertheless, I will vote for whoever contestant does the best on the last task. Just being jewish is not enough to get my vote. I'm sure Lee understands that quite well.

Having seen the additional footage on Yahoo:

It's clearly obvious to me that Roxanne got the shaft this time around. She didn't deserve to be "fired" at all on this task, whereas Allie clearly deserved to. This tells me the interviews were likely canceled (and if so, due to filming issues caused by severe weather during October that likely resulted in a task being canceled) because otherwise, Roxanne would have NOT been "fired" this week and would have gone to the interviews with Sean and Lee.

Allie really screwed up badly on this task, and far worse than what was seen on the show. She should have been the only one "fired" this time around, and almost certainly would have been had there been interviews at the final three.

This double "firing" was CLEARLY pre-planned in my opinion and Roxanne being given the cobra here is probably the most unjust "firing" in Apprentice history.

Roxanne deserved to go. She did nothing to help out for the second consecutive task. Two weeks ago she was useless in walmart because she hoped Tammy would get the blame. This time she did nothing productive with the hope that only Allie would be fired. Synergy was the complete opposite of Gold Rush these past couple weeks. Sean and Lee cooperated and supported each other. On Synergy, it's been each individual going after their own self-interest. They've actually done it that way all season. It started with ganging up on Brent and then they decided to take down Andrea. Synergy has never operated as a team towards a common goal of winning a task. They're always focused on who to get fired. Roxanne was an integral part of this negative strategy so she deserved to be fired.

Unjust firings this season? How about Dan and Tarek?

Roxanne should have been fired a long time ago. She has been sliding through on other's coattails all along and she really sucks. Was so thrilled to see her finally go - and the bitch Allie - made the night a complete success!!!

I agree - the most unjust firing was Dan. He probably is the most intelligent and has the best business experience and smarts than any of the others from the start. Too bad Lee won't choose him in the final task because of the bad blood between them.

I think what people are missing here is that the whole thing is planned. Trump knew that he needed to get down to 2 candidates by the end of the show. The only angle for him to be able to do that was to bait them into a situation where they would have to go on the offensive to protect themselves from being fired. Predictably, survival instinct kicks in and they take the bait...leading to a "disappointed" Trump waxing all sanctimonius about how terrible it is to see 2 close friends turn on each other.

Every time I watch the show my disgust for Trump reaches new levels. This show is not about a "15 week interview". It is about creating compelling television and furthering the business agendas and brand of Trump and all of ther partnering companies. It is not about justice or injustice.

At 5/24/2006 12:34 PM, Blogger Wallyhorse said...

I can agree on Tarek being shafted:

If I'm right and we actually were one task plus the interviews short, then Tarek would NOT have been "fired" with Charmaine on the Hair Cuttery task, as Trump could only have in that scenario one double "firing" (which he already had used on Stacy and Pepi early on) and would have prevented Mr. Trump from doing that again.

Would Tarek have gone further if that had been the case? Who knows, but it doesn't change for me Roxanne being the most unjust "firing" I can remember.

Anyway, I found a very interesting article on Forbes.com that has 10 candidates (including Katrina, Troy and Omarosa from season one, Raj and Wes from season two, Kendra and Tana from season three and Brent from this season) discussing how their lives have changed since being on the show. You can see the article by going to:

When your team is down to 2 or 3 people, you can't stay under the radar any longer. It's time to put up or get out. On the last two tasks, Roxanne did not put up. She didn't do one single productive thing on either task. She did not deserve to stay in the competition.
